The Good Shepherd United Church of Christ

Knitting Ministry

The Good Shepherd Knitting Ministry welcomes everyone that likes to knit or crochet.  The group meets from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month, at a member’s home.

The objectives of this ministry are to provide small group fellowship, to share knowledge and inspiration and last, but not least, to combine talents to handcraft items for those less fortunate. We knit hats, scarfs, small blankets, bears, shawls, etc that we contribute to charities in the Green Valley area and Mexico. We knit cacti that are sold at the Good Shepherd Sweet Bake Sale in early December; monies are contributed to the Women’s Fellowship organization. We knit “mantels of comfort” (prayer shawls and lap robes) that are given to the Care Group for distribution.

Prayer Shawl Ministry
The knitting or crocheting of prayer shawls is the most gratifying of all projects crafted in the Knitting Ministry.  There is a special blessing in the making, giving and receiving of prayer shawls. We are starting a PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY for those that would like to participate in this endeavor. This is designed for those of you that would like to contribute time and talent but don’t have time for “another meeting”. Yarn and patterns will be supplied.
